Based in Shady Drove, Pennsylvania, Grove started as a lifting equipment manufacturer in 1947. It was the company that introduced the world's first slewing rough terrain crane in 1968 and the world's first trapezoidal boom in 1970. These significant contributions helped paved the way for Grove to become the leading name in crane manufacturing. It acquired National Crane in 1978, and in 1994, it became the first international multi-facility crane manufacturer to be ISO 9001-certified. The company has grown immensely since then. So, it was somewhat expected when Manitowoc, a Wisconsin-based shipbuilding company that has been building cranes since the 1920s, decided to acquire it in 2002.
Grove retained its name and product lines even after the acquisition. Today, it continues to lead the crane manufacturing industry with its comprehensive crane line-up, including all terrain, truck mounted, rough terrain, telescoping crawler cranes, and carrydeck. Each Grove equipment is designed to give the end-users a competitive advantage, thanks to Grove's unique TWINLOCK boom pinning system and MEGAFORM boom design.
