Timken Gaskets and Sealing Systems
About Timken
When it comes to bearings, arguably, no other name is held with more esteem than Timken. Founded by the renowned German-American inventor Henry Timken in 1899, the Timken Roller Bearing Company introduced the modern roller bearing, which generated less friction, was easier to maintain, and lasted longer than the traditional roller bearings used at that time. Also, unlike many of its competitors, Timken manufactures its tubing and steel components in-house to ensure the consistent quality of its products. By the mid-20th century, Timken had grown into the leading bearing manufacturer in North America and Europe. Millions of Timken bearings were used in automotive, agriculture, machine tooling, industrial, and rail industries.
Today, Timken remains a top supplier of tapered roller bearings, with operations in 42 countries across the globe. It manages an extensive portfolio of precision-engineered bearings and power transmission products and offers powertrain rebuild and repair services. It also supplies and services industrial drivetrain components under the Timken Power Systems divisions and owns a portfolio of aftermarket brands.
Timken Parts
With over a century’s worth of knowledge and innovation, Timken continues to improve the performance and efficiency of motor vehicles, rails, industrial equipment, and other types of machinery worldwide. Engineered bearing products remain as its core business and reflect Timken’s long-standing dominance in the market, while power transmission products improve its ability to meet the needs of global industries more effectively. From wheel bearings in the landing gears of passenger planes to drive belts in ATVs, customers can always rely on Timken parts to get the job done.
Bearings
Timken takes pride in the quality of their bearings. Whether it is tapered, cylindrical, thrust, ball, miniature, housed unit, or just a plain old bearing, each one is crafted with precision tolerances, proprietary internal geometries, and the best materials available. All of this is to ensure each and every Timken bearing delivers strong performance through its lifetime.
Tapered roller bearings. Since being patented by Henry Timken in 1898, Timken tapered roller bearings have remained a popular choice for a wide range of heavy duty applications. Consisting of just a cone assembly and a cup, each bearing is highly durable, easy to maintain, and flexible enough to provide reliable radial and axial support. Timken also offers these bearings in a variety of inch and metric sizes to accommodate different performance requirements.
Cylindrical roller bearings. Timken’s single-row cylindrical roller bearing features a unique design and geometry that makes it stand out from the competition. It consists of a cylindrical inner ring and two ribs on the outer ring, which allows it to function as a “floating” bearing that can carry radial loads and still accommodate both expansion and contraction. Its design also allows it to provide axial displacement between the rings without causing excessive friction even under heavy radial loads. These types of bearings are especially suited for vehicle transmissions, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, cement and coal pulverizers, and mining equipment.
Ball bearings. From electric motors to farm tools, Timken ball bearings are used in a wide range of applications and conditions. These bearings feature super-finished raceways and controlled internal raceways, which ensure a consistently smooth performance every time. Corrosion-resistant models are also available with stainless steel rings, rolling elements, and cages for longer service life. In addition, Timken also manufactures miniaturized versions of its ball bearing line, which is suitable for precision instrument applications.
Spherical roller bearings. Ideal for environments constantly exposed to extreme temperatures, vibrations, contaminants, and acceleration forces, Timken spherical roller bearings are built for extra strength and durability in mind. These bearings feature a hardened steel cage, which has a greater fatigue strength and resistance against shock and wear.
Thrust bearings. Available in a standard ball, cylindrical roller, spherical roller, and tapered configurations, Timken thrust bearings are optimized for heavy axial loads under high speeds and other challenging conditions. These bearings are made of premium-grade steel and have a simplified construction that makes them easy to install and maintain.
Seals
Bearings work best when adequately lubricated, but they will quickly dry out unless they’re properly sealed. Dirt and moisture can also contaminate the lubricant and compromise their effectiveness. This is why Timken offers its line of sealing solutions, which is available in various designs and materials to resist harsh temperatures, pressure, debris, and chemicals.
O-rings. Used wherever shafts rotate and bearings require lubrication, Timken’s O-ring kits cover most popular applications. These oil and grease seals are precisely crafted according to original equipment or aftermarket requirements to ensure a seamless fit and optimized performance.
V-seals. Made of either nitrile or high-performance fluoroelastomers, Timken’s highly versatile V-seals can serve as the primary sealing element, a contaminant excluder, or a backup seal. Their highly elastic properties make them easy to install on a wide range of shaft sizes as well as on eccentric and misaligned shafts.
Wheel end seals. Timken’s wheel-end seals for heavy duty commercial vehicles offer precision sealing and performance that meets or exceeds that of major industry competitors. Available in a wide range of sizes, these seals are packed with features such as oversized metal outer diameter and NBR lip contact barrier points that greatly improve its durability even in demanding environments. Timken also offers unique tools specially designed to make seal installation faster and more accurate.
Timing Belts
Quiet, efficient, and easy to maintain, Timken’s line of timing belts ensure synchronous shaft operation while keeping slippage and speed loss to a minimum. These belts are available with trapezoidal, curvilinear, or modified curvilinear teeth with matching grooves on the sprockets for consistent positive power transmission on high-torque applications. And unlike conventional V-belts, Timken timing belts require no re-tensioning for maximum uptime on the road.
Hubcaps
Timken offers a wide range of OEM-approved hubcaps in aluminum and stamped steel. Durable and cost-effective, Timken hubcaps are precision-machined for a perfect fit and seal. Premium models also have additional features, including vented fill plugs and machined windows for hassle-free oil checks.
Maintenance Tools
Because bearings require precision to install correctly, Timken also designs and manufactures specialized tools to install, remove, and maintain bearings quickly and safely. These include hydraulic and mechanical pullers, impact hammers, and sleeves. Each tool has been tested to work with Timken bearings without damaging them, helping ensure a problem-free operation and long bearing life.
