Arguably, no other construction vehicle brand has such a storied reputation than Unit Crane. Formed in 1928, Unit Crane traces its roots to the Universal Power Shovel Company, one of the earliest manufacturers of construction vehicles and equipment. One of its founders was William Ford, the brother of the famous Model T inventor Henry Ford. The company was also best known for introducing the Full Vision cab during WWII, which swapped the traditional steel square housings used in tractors to protect the driver with an all-glass enclosure. Revolutionary for its day, the new design gave the operator better vision and increased safety at the worksite. The Full Vision became a signature feature in subsequent Unit Crane models until the business was purchased in the late '80s by the Offshore Crane Co. in New Orleans.
Despite having no new models for over three decades, the fact that there are still Unit Crane vehicles and equipment operating at construction sites around the world is a testament to their durability and performance. But because of their advanced age, Unit Crane models do require more frequent maintenance and immediate replacement of any worn down or damaged part. Finding the right replacement part is especially important, as the component must be fully compatible with the model to ensure proper performance and prevent further damage and downtime.
