ABOUT WESTERN STAR

Western Star, also known as Western Star Trucks, is a US manufacturer of trucks and truck parts. A subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America, which is owned by the automotive giant Daimler AG, Western Star is one of the few German brands that have a unique and distinctly American history, following, and support base.

Western Star's original name was White Western Star. Founded in 1967, White Western Star worked closely with Autocar to manufacture trucks as an up-and-coming original equipment manufacturer (OEM). White Western Trucks was the only brand not sold to Volvo in the Volvo-White merger of 1980. Instead, White continued to manufacture trucks under the joint ownership of Bow Valley Resources and Nova Corporation—with each company sharing an equal split. Ownership of Western Star changed several more times before eventually becoming part of DaimlerChrysler's Freightliner trucks division.

Today, Western Star—in tandem with Freightliner and the rest of DaimlerChrysler—primarily manufactures class 8 commercial vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and industrial vehicles. The company breaks its products down into five individual categories, each containing a list of individual models: the 4700 Series, the 4800 Series, the 4900 Series, the 5700XE Series, and the 6900 Series.
