Application Summary
AD injector designation. The AE injector used in Ford 7.3L applications is referred to as a long lead injector and is only used in the number eight cylinder on the applications as noted below. The DTech part number for this injector is DT730004R. In the 1999 model year there were two different variations of the 7.3L engine used. Each variation requires different injectors. 1999 model year engines with serial number 896812 or below use the DT730002R injector. The DT730004R injector is not to be used with the DT730002R or incorrect engine operation and DTC will result. 1999.5 model year engines built after December 7, 1998 with a serial number of 896813 or above use the DT730003R injector. It is optional to use the DT730004R injector in cylinder number eight to reduce an engine cackle noise. Beginning with engine serial number 1311241, the engine was built with the AE injector. When the DT730004R is used on engines with a serial number below 1311240 the PCM must be reprogrammed to the latest calibration to prevent a false contribution test DTC. Please refer to Ford TSB 03-21 -39 for more information. The 2000 - 2003 F650 / F750 does not use the AE injector. On all engines the serial number is stamped into the block at the rear oil cooler pad located at the lower left side of the engine block rearward of the oil filter.
